Manufacturing Options for Carbon Fiber Motorcycle Fairings

We offer multiple carbon fiber manufacturing processes depending on your target weight, volume, budget and application. Here is a straightforward comparison:

ProcessBest ForKey Advantages
Prepreg autoclavePremium dry carbon fairings, racing parts, high-end aftermarketLowest weight, consistent fiber/resin ratio, best surface quality
Wet carbon / vacuum baggingCustom fairings, covers, small-batch aftermarket partsLower starting cost, flexible for low MOQ
Vacuum infusionLarger panels and repeat production runsBetter resin control than hand layup, good consistency
Carbon + fiberglass hybridCost-sensitive fairing kitsLower cost while keeping carbon appearance
Carbon Kevlar hybridRacing bodywork, impact-sensitive areasBetter toughness and impact resistance than pure carbon

Our factory is equipped with autoclaves, hot presses, curing ovens and CNC trimming equipment, supported by aluminum and P20 steel mold tooling, giving us the capacity for both sample development and high-volume batch production.

Carbon Fiber Weave, Finish and Surface Options

OptionAvailable Choices
Carbon weave3K twill, 3K plain, 12K twill, forged carbon, custom weave
Surface finishGloss clear coat, matte clear coat, satin clear coat
Material constructionFull carbon fiber, carbon + fiberglass, carbon Kevlar hybrid
UV coatingUV-resistant automotive clear coat, 2K clear coat
Color optionsNatural black carbon, tinted clear coat, custom logo area
Fitment targetOEM replacement, racing fairing, custom aftermarket design

Why this matters for your project: A 3K twill weave gives the classic visible carbon pattern most customers recognize. 12K weave is coarser and often used for structural panels where appearance is secondary. Forged carbon suits complex contoured shapes where a continuous weave would require multiple awkward cuts.

Dry Carbon vs Wet Carbon Motorcycle Fairings

This is one of the most common questions we get from buyers. Here is a practical breakdown:

Dry carbon (prepreg autoclave)

  • Made from pre-impregnated carbon fiber sheets, cured under controlled heat and pressure
  • Fiber-to-resin ratio is precisely controlled — typically 60/40 or better
  • Result: lightest possible panel, highest structural consistency
  • Best for: premium aftermarket lines, racing teams, OEM-grade products
  • Consideration: higher tooling and material cost, longer lead time for complex shapes

Wet carbon (vacuum bagging / hand layup)

  • Dry fiber fabric is laid into a mold and resin is applied by hand or infusion
  • More flexible for short runs, custom one-off panels and budget-sensitive projects
  • Slightly heavier than prepreg equivalent due to higher resin content
  • Best for: custom shops, low MOQ projects, covers and cosmetic panels
  • Consideration: surface quality and weight depend on operator skill and process control

For cost-sensitive or early-stage projects, wet carbon samples can be used to verify shape and fitment before committing to full tooling investment. For premium aftermarket lines or racing product lines where weight, surface consistency and laminate control are more critical, prepreg autoclave production is the recommended process.

How to Start a Custom Motorcycle Fairing Project

  1. Send your brief — motorcycle model, year, part list and target application (racing, street, aftermarket retail)
  2. Provide reference data — OEM samples, 3D scan files or STEP/STP files preferred for new tooling
  3. Confirm specifications — material, finish, thickness, mounting hole positions, quantity
  4. DFM review and quotation — we review for manufacturing feasibility and provide pricing
  5. Mold design and tooling — aluminum or steel mold depending on volume and complexity
  6. First article sample — fitment check, surface review, customer approval before batch production
  7. Batch production — curing, clear coating, trimming, final inspection and packing
  8. Shipping — DDP air or sea, or delivery to your China forwarder

For OEM replacement projects, we target direct fitment based on original samples or CAD files. Minor adjustment may still depend on motorcycle condition, installation method and aftermarket accessories.

Fitment and Quality Control

For motorcycle fairings, the most important quality checkpoints are mounting hole position, edge trimming, panel symmetry, clear coat quality and compatibility with OEM mounting points. During production, we inspect at each stage before moving to the next.

QC PointWhat We Check
Mold conditionSurface, parting line, mounting reference points
Fiber layupWeave direction, overlap area, local reinforcement zones
CuringVacuum integrity, temperature profile, curing time
TrimmingEdge lines, slots, vent openings, mounting holes
Surface finishGloss/matte consistency, pinholes, bubbles, dry spots
FitmentOEM sample comparison or customer installation feedback
PackingFoam protection, export carton or crate

We do not claim zero-defect on every batch — what we do is catch and address issues before they leave the factory. For new tooling projects, a first article inspection and customer sign-off is a standard part of our process.

Technical Specifications

  • Weight: Typically lighter than ABS or fiberglass alternatives; actual reduction depends on layup design, panel thickness, reinforcement areas and part geometry
  • Primary material: 3K twill carbon fiber (3K plain, 12K twill, forged carbon and custom weaves available on request)
  • Layup thickness: 6–12 layers depending on part size, structural requirement and customer specification
  • Surface coating: UV-resistant automotive clear coat or 2K clear coat (gloss, matte or satin)
  • Temperature resistance: Depends on resin system and clear coat specification; high-temperature resin systems are available for special applications
  • Mold materials: FRP, aluminum or P20 steel molds selected based on required quantity, dimensional tolerance and surface quality
  • Tooling lead time: Typically 3–5 weeks depending on part complexity and mold type
  • Production lead time: 2–4 weeks after tooling approval and first article sign-off

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make carbon fiber motorcycle fairings from OEM plastic samples?

Yes. We can use OEM fairing panels for reverse engineering, mold development and carbon fiber reproduction. For best accuracy, original panels should be complete and not badly deformed. We can also work from photographs and measurements for simple shapes, but 3D scan data or STEP files are always preferred for tight-tolerance parts.

What is the minimum order quantity?

For projects using existing tooling or samples we already hold, MOQ is negotiable and can be low. For custom tooling projects, MOQ depends on part size, mold investment and process. Many customers start with one sample set or a small first batch after mold completion, then move to repeat orders once fitment and quality are approved. We are happy to discuss first-run quantities for new OEM/ODM projects.

What is the difference between dry carbon and wet carbon motorcycle fairings?

Dry carbon fairings use prepreg material cured under autoclave pressure — they are lighter and more consistent but cost more to produce. Wet carbon or vacuum bagged parts use hand-applied resin and are more cost-effective for custom or lower-volume work. See the full comparison section above.

Do you need STEP/STP files for custom motorcycle fairings?

STEP or STP files are preferred for new designs, but we can also start from 3D scan data, OEM samples or detailed engineering drawings. For OEM replacement parts, original panels are usually sufficient.

Can you produce matte or gloss carbon fiber fairings?

Yes. We offer gloss, matte and satin clear coat finishes. Surface weave options include 3K twill, 3K plain, 12K and forged carbon patterns.

Can you make carbon fiber fairings for Ducati, BMW, Yamaha, Kawasaki or Honda?

Yes. We manufacture custom carbon fiber motorcycle fairings and bodywork for Ducati, BMW, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki, Aprilia, KTM, Triumph and other platforms. For models not listed, contact us with your specifications.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes. We ship by air or sea, DDP or to your China forwarder. Lead time, shipping method and incoterms can be discussed based on your order size and timeline.
